ballot | a piece of paper on which a person votes |
political party | group of people with mostly the same ideas and beliefs about government |
campaign | to actively try to persuade people to vote |
primary | an election to see who will run in the general election (semi-finals) |

federal government | deals with matters that affect the whole country. ex. It provides for the nation's defense by maintaining an army and navy. |
state government | handles matters within their own state. ex. It determines what is to be taught in their schools. |

Articles of Confederation | the country's first plan of government. However, it was too weak to protect the nation and failed to unite the thirteen states |
