hand wheel | located on the right side of the head- raises the needle manually |
stop motion knob | stops the needle from going up and down so you can wind the bobbin |
needle | used to carry the thred through the fabric |
needle bar and clamp | located above the needle- will hold the needle in place and keeps it tight as you sew |
take up lever | moves the thread along and goes up and down with the needle |
thread guides | guides the thread through the machine as you sew |
eye | is located at the bottom of the needle and is used to keep the thread in the needle |
presser foot | this will hold the fabric in place as you sew |
presser foot lifter | this is going to raise and lower the presser foot and is located towards the back of the machine |
feed dog | is located under the presser foot and will move the fabric along as you sew |
foot speed control | this is located on the floor and will make the needle go up an down automatically and controls the speed |
stitch length regulator | this is used to change the length of the stitches |
reverse button or lever | this lets you backstitch and is needed to secure your stitch |
throat plate | surrounds the feed- will support the fabric as you sew |
seam guidelines | these are located on the right side of the throat plate and will help you sew a straight seam |
slide plate | located on the throat plate- will cover the bobbin case |
bobbin case | located underneath the slide plate and will hold the bobbin |
bobbin | is inside the bobbin case and will supply the thread from the lower part of the machine |
latch and spindle | on the top of the head- will hold the bobbin so you can wind it |
bobbin winder tension disk | regulates the thread tension when winding a bobbin |
spool pin and holder | located on the top of the head- will hold the spool of thread, which supplies thread for the upper part of the machine |
tension regulator | will control the tightness of the upper thread |
stitch pattern dial | allows you to select various types of stitches |
needle position dial | places the needle in either the left, center, or right stitching position |
number 5 | this equals a 5/8 seam allowance on the seam guidelines |
number 10-12 | this is used for permanent stitches |
too much or too little tension | will cause the fabric to weaken or pucker |
