| Florida Cession | 1819 - US receives Spanish Florida from Spain by agreeing to pay 5 million dollars to Americans owed money by Spain. Spain saw they couldn't defend Florida from us and they were trying to end revolutions in their colonies in Latin America. |
| Red River Cession | 1818 - US receives this land through a treaty with Great Britain. This land was in dispute between Britain and the US. An agreement was reached that would give us this piece of land and a similar piece futher north to Great Britain. |
| Louisiana Purchase | 1803 - US purchases this land from Napoleon of France for 15 million dollars. We bought it because we feared a large French empire in North America, we wanted control of the Mississippi River, and control of the city of New Orleans. |
