| Why is pride the chief capital sin? | It is the root of all other vices. |
| How was pride at the root of our first parents? | They wanted to be like God and not to be subordinate to him. |
| What is rightful pride? | Correctly being proud of your accomplishments and having a healthy self esteem. It knows that God is the true source of our talents and self-worth. |
| What is covetousness? | It is greed. It is uncontrollable desire for material possessions. |
| If material things are good, why is covetousness wrong? | Because it is improper and uncontrolled desire for material things. |
| How can covetousness lead to other sins? | It can lead someone to lie, cheat, steal, ect. in order to possess those things desired. |
| What is lust? | It is uncontrolled desire for indulgence in sexual pleasure. |
| How can sexual pleasure be good? | In the context of marriage according to the law of the Church |
| When does sexual pleasure becomes disordered? | When it is separated from marriage and when it is focused on one's own pleasure instead of selfless true love of another person |
| What is anger? | It is an uncontrolled expression of displeasure and antagonism, often accompanied by a desire for revenge. |
| What is righteous anger? | It is the proper response to injustice. |
| How does righteous anger differ from sinful anger? | When it is done out of bitterness or hatred and seeks revenge. |
| What is gluttony? | It is uncontrolled desire for and an indulgence in food and drink. |
| When is our desire for food good? | When one is hungry and eats but doe not over eat |
| What is envy? | It is unhappiness or discontent over the good fortune of success of others. |
| Is any act of wishing to be like another a sin or envy? Explain. | No. Only when we are not happy with another's good fortune or if we rejoice in his misfortune. |
| What is sloth and how it is unlike the other vices? | It is excessive laziness or carelessness. It differs from the other vices because it is not an ordinary desire that is uncontrolled. It is a lack of a desire to do one's duties. |
| How does a desire for rest and leisure become disordered? | When it prevents one from doing his duties. |
