Adjective- | a word that modifies a noun or pronoun. Modifies means to describe the word or make its meaning more definite. An adjective modifies a noun or pronoun in three ways: |
Demonstrative Adjectives | Describe nouns by telling “which one” or “which ones”. Include this, that, these, and those |
Common Adjectives- | Describe a noun or pronoun and do not begin with a capital letter |
Proper adjectives | Formed from a proper noun and begins with a capital letter. |
Comparative Adjectives | describes a comparison between two things, people, places, or actions. |
Superlative Adjectives | describes a comparison between three or more things, people, places, or actions. |
Verb | a word that expresses action or a state of being. |
Action Verb | expresses physical or mental action. It shows what someone or something does, did, or will do. |
Helping Verb | helps the main verb (the verb expressing the action) to express the action or state of being. |
Linking Verb | links or connects the subjects with a noun, a pronoun, or an adjective in the predicate. |
Transitive Verb | is an action verb that expresses an action directed toward a person, place, thing, or idea. Transitive verbs pass the action from the doer to the receiver (objects). |
Intransitive Verb | expresses action or tells something about the subject without passing the action on to the receiver. |
State of Being Verb | does not refer to an action; they simply tell what the subject is. |
Adverb | a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. |
