| Direct object | a word that receives the action of an action verb (who or what), will always be a noun or pronoun, and will never be part of a prepositional phrase |
| declarative sentence | expresses a fact, wish, or intent |
| indirect object | tells to what, to whom, for what, or for whom an action is done (will always be a noun or pronoun), will never be part of a prepositional phrase, and will always show up between the verb and a direct object |
| subject | who or what the sentence is about |
| predicate adjective | shows up in the predicate and describes or modifies the subject |
| interrogative sentence | asks a question |
| predicate | tells what the subject is or does or what happens to the subject |
| predicate nominative | identifies, defines, or renames the subject |
| imperative sentence | expresses a command, request, or direction |
