Desktop computer a computer designed for you to use on a desktop.
Disk drive hardware that holds, reads from and writes to computer disks.
Dot matrix printer an inexpensive, durable printer that uses a pattern of tiny ink dots to produce an image
Floppy disk a removable storage device, usually one flat disk enclosed in a case; used to store small amounts of information
Hard disk a storage device, usually a stack of disks enclosed in a case; used to store large amounts of information
Hardwarethe physical parts of a computer system such as a monitor, the keyboard, and the hard drive
Inkjet printer a medium quality printer that uses an ink cartridge to produce an image
Input device hardware that allows you to communicate with your computer such as a keyboard

Magnetic Tape a storage device usually stored in a cartridge, reel or cassette; used to store large amounts of information for a long time
Mainframea large computer used to process massive amounts of information
Memoryhardware that stores computer processing instructions and information
Microphonea device that allows you to record sounds as input to your computer
Minicomputera midsize computer used to process large amounts of information
Modemhardware that allows your computer to communicate with other computers over phone lines
Monitora screen similar to a TV screen you use to view information
Mousea hand-held input device; you use by rolling it over a flat surface, pointing, clicking, and dragging
Network A system of computers linked together to share information and hardware
Notebook computer – a small portable computer designed to unfold like an open notebook
Optical Disc a storage device, usually called laser disks or compact disks (CDs); used to hold very large amounts of information permanently
Output Device Hardware that allows your computer to communicate with you such as a monitor or printer
Personal Computer a smaller, less powerful computer used to perform many of the same tasks as minicomputers but on a smaller scale
PrinterAn output device that gives you information from the computer in printed form
Scanneran input device; used to turn pictures or documents into groups of dots or pixels using a light source
Speakeran output device that allows you to hear voice, music and other sounds from your computer
Storage device hardware that allows you to store information such as a hard drive or floppy disk
Supercomputerthe most powerful type of computer; often used to forecast weather, navigate satellites, etc.
Touch screen an input device; used by touching the computer screen
Touch pad a pressure-sensitive and motion-sensitive input device; used by moving the finger over the touch pad
Trackballa hand-held input device similar to a mouse turned upside down; used by rolling the trackball with the fingers
