The Scientific Method

HypothesisA tentative explanation for an observation or scientific problem that can be tested by further investigation.
PurposeYou can find this by doing research, by examing the results of previous experment, or by obbserving the world around you.
ProcedureWrite each step with a verb and keep the steps short. should be clar enough for somone else to use as instructions for repeating your experiment.
Independent variablethe factor that you wish to test and this is maniupulated or chaged so that it can be tested.
Dependent variableThe factor that you measure to gather results.
ResultsGather both quantitative and qualitative data. Record anything that may be wrong in your procedure. Look at all of your observations togeher. Look for meaningful ways to present your observations.
ConclusionCompare your results with your hypothesis to see if the hypothesis is supported. do not make inferences about factors that you did not test.
Extended questionswrite a list of questions for further research and investigation. your ideas may lead you to new experiments and discoveries.
