| American Plan (AP) | is accommodation with breakfast and two main meals included in the price |
| Charter aircraft | "A plane commissioned for a specific period of time and usually fly with a full load of passengers to a given destination. |
| Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) | An extra insurance cover, customers hiring a car should be advised to take. This covers the cost in the event of an accident without prejudicing their own UK car cover. |
| Commission | payment made to a travel agent by principals such as tour operators. The payment made is a percentage of the value of the booking. The percentage of commission varies from one principal to another |
| Deposit | a small payment per person made by a customer to secure a holiday or travel booking. Not refundable. Not the balance |
| European Plan (EP) | Accommodation but no meals included in the price |
| Fly/cruise | used to describe a flight and cruise. |
| Full Board | is bed, breakfast, lunch and dinner |
| Gites | are self-catering cottages/houses in France which have been modernised |
| Half Board | is bed, breakfast and one other main meal. |
| High season | Refers to the popular dates for flights or holidays. The other seasons are called Low and |
| Short-haul | Destinations are those within five hours of travel such as most destinations within Europe. |
| Independents | Often a single shop agency, usually run by a sole proprietor who are perhaps local to the area. |
| IT | Means inclusive tours and refers to package holidays |
| Lead name | The name of the first person on a booking form. This person should sign the booking form and for legal reasons must be over the age of 18 |
| Long haul | Describes destinations of over five hours duration and beyond Europe |
| Modified American Plan (MAP) | Accommodation with breakfast and one main meal included in the price. |
| Multiples | Agents distinguished by the fact that their travel offices can be found countrywide. E.g. Thomas Cook |
| Travel agents | Sell hols & travel for customers. Also offers advice on destinations, passports and visas. They commission from principals with whom the bookings are made. |
| Option | A Provisionally reserved holiday. Held for a specific period of time, such as 24 hours, to give the customer time to check the details, though most tour operators no longer offer this service. |
| Package Holidays | are put together by tour operators who charge an all-in-price for the whole holiday including transport, accommodation and transfers. |
| Passenger manifest | is a list of names of passengers in a hotel or on an aircraft or ship |
