| stationary front | little horizontal movement occurs, usually associated with long periods of light precipitation |

| cumulus | type of cloud that looks like cotton balls |
| cirrus | type of cloud that is wispy, feathery, and forms at high altitudes |
| stratus | type of cloud that is patchy and gray in color |

| 6 steps in cloud formation | water heats up, evaporation, water vapor rises and cools down, condensation, water particles attach to dust particles, particle cluster together |

| relative humidity | amount of water vapor in the air at a particular temperature compared with the total amount of water vapor air can hold at that temperature |
| isobars | connect areas that have the same air pressure |
| convection | caused by density differences; hot air expands and gets less dense (rises); cold air contracts and gets more dense (sinks) |
| air pressure | the weight of the air above you |
| wind | travels from high pressure to low |
| wind speed | determined by the gradient between isobars |
| psychrometer | a device with two thermometers - one wet and one dry - used to determine relative humidity |
