Aps I 2008 Charts and Graphs Vocabulary

AB
Area ChartData graphed as shaded regions below continuous lines. Used to show trends or changes in values over time.
Axis LabelsThe individual headings for each point on an axis. These are generated directly from the data series. There are two types, X and Y.
Axis TitleThe heading for an axis on a graph which describes its purpose and content. A chart component. There are two types, X and Y. Same as Axis Name.
Bar ChartData graphed as horizontal bars. Used to make comparisons between values across categories
ChartA visual aid used to display and explain data. It is composed of a graph, labels, and titles
Chart TitleThe main heading for a chart which describes its purpose and content.
Column ChartData graphed as vertical bars. Used to make comparisons between values across categories
Data LabelA chart component that identifies or explains a specific value from the data series used with a graph
Data MarkerIndicates a data value in a graph.
Data SeriesA set of related numeric values used to generate a graph.
Data TableAn optional chart component that displays the series values directly in the chart alongside the graph for clarity and comparison.
EmbeddingTo create a copy of an original file inside another. Changes to the original will NOT be displayed.
Exploded Pie ChartA modified pie chart in which one or more slices have been singled out for emphasis
Exploded SliceAny segment of a Pie Chart which has been separated out from the whole for emphasis
GraphThe component part of a chart that visually represents the data as bars, lines, slices, etc. It includes the plot area, gridlines, and values.
GridlinesHorizontal or vertical lines drawn across the plot area of a graph to make reading the data easier
LegendA chart object that explains the different symbols, colors, or patterns displayed in a graph
LineChart Data graphed as continuous lines. Used to show trends or changes in values over time.
LinkingTo reference an external file directly without making a copy. Changes to the original WILL be displayed
Pictograph ChartData represented by pictures arranged in columns or rows. Used to make comparisons between values across categories. Same as Pictogram
Pie ChartData graphed as segments (slices) in a circular graph. Used to show percentages or the contribution of each part to the whole. Can only contain one series.
Plot AreaThe background area of a graph created by the X (category) and Y (values) axes where data is plotted
Scatter ChartData graphed as individual points with X and Y coordinates generated from related pairs of values. Used to correlate two different sets of data and reveal any relationship that exists between them. Must contain exactly two series. Same as Scatterplot and XY Chart
Series NameThe heading for a data series in a graph that displays in the legend.
Series ValuesThe individual numeric values, usually from the same row or column of a spreadsheet, used as a set to generate a graph
Slice. One segment of a Pie Chart
Stacked Bar ChartData graphed as a stack of horizontal bars that represent the sum of multiple values. Used to make comparisons both between values across categories (like a column chart) and of each part to the whole (like a pie chart) using a single graph.
Stacked ColumnChart Data graphed as a stack of vertical bars that represent the sum of multiple values. Used to make comparisons both between values across categories (like a column chart) and of each part to the whole (like a pie chart) using a single graph.
Tick MarkA small mark to separate and clarify data categories or values in a graph.
X AxisThe bottom horizontal side of a graph containing the category information. Same as Category Axis.
Y AxisThe left vertical side of a graph containing the numerical data. Same as Value Axis.
