Closing a documentThe process of removing a document from the computer’s memory and from the screen.
Dialog boxA box that appears when a command is selected, and is used to supply the information needed to execute the command.
EditChange the contents of a document.
FileA collection of related data stored on a lasting medium such as a hard disk, a CD, or a diskette.
File nameA unique name for a file stored on disk.
Formatting marksSymbols that do not appear on paper when a document is printed.
I-beam pointerThe shape of the pointer when it is moved into a document.
Insertion pointA blinking vertical line in a document that indicates where the next character typed will be placed.
MenuA list of commands.
Menu barA horizontal bar below the title bar that contains the names of drop-down menus.
Microsoft WordThe word processor application in Microsoft Office.
Normal viewDisplays a document with dotted lines representing where each page ends.

Smart tag indicatorA purple dotted underline that appears under text that has been designated by Word as a smart tag.
Status barDisplays information about a document.
Title barA horizontal bar that displays the name and type of document.
ToolbarA horizontal bar that contains buttons that represent different actions.
Word ProcessorA computer application that is used to produce documents.
Word wrapThe process Word uses to determine if the next word will fit on the end of the current line or if it must go on the next line.
Close commandCloses a document. Found in the File menu.
Exit commandQuits Word. Found in the File menu.
Ignore All commandRemoves the red wavy line from all occurrences of that word in the document. Found in the menu displayed by right-clicking a word that has a red wavy line.
Ignore Once commandRemoves the green wavy line from a sentence that contains a possible grammatical error. Found in the menu displayed by right-clicking a phrase or sentence that has a green wavy line.
New Office Document commandDisplays the New Office Document dialog box. Found in the Start menu.
Normal commandChanges the view of a document to Normal view. Found in the View menu.
Open commandDisplays a dialog box used to open an existing document. Found in the File menu. The Open button on the toolbar can be used instead of the command.

Print commandDisplays a dialog box used to print a document. Found in the File menu. The Print button on the toolbar can be used instead of the command.

Show/Hide ¶ buttonDisplays formatting marks. Found on the toolbar.
Smart Tag Actions buttonDisplays the type of data, the smart tag data, and a menu of actions. Displayed by moving the pointer over a smart tag indicator.
Toolbar Options buttonDisplays more buttons in a toolbar. Found at the far right of each toolbar.
Zoom commandDisplays a dialog box with options that affect the magnification of the displayed document. Found in the View menu.
