What are the protections given to Americans by the First Amendment?This amendment prevents Congress from making laws that take away certain basic freedoms, those of freedom of religion, speech, and press
What are the protections given to Americans by the Second Amendment?This Amendment describes the need of states to have a militia or volunteer army. It states that the government cannot take away people's right to keep and carry arms (weapons)
What are the protections given to Americans by the Third Amendment?This Amendment states that no soldier can be quartered (take up residence) in any house without the consent of the owner.
What are the protections given to Americans by the Fourth Amendment?This Amemdment protects Americans from unreasonable search or seizure. It also states that no warrants shall be issued without probable cause.
What are the protections given to Americans by the Fifth Amendment?This Amendment protects American rights in criminal cases. It protects Americans from "double jeopardy" and states that no person shall be required to testify against him/herself. It also states no person shall be deprived of property, life, or liberty without due process of law.
What are the protections given to Americans by the Sixth Amendment?This Amendment states that in a criminal prosecution, the accused has the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury. It also gives the accused the right to question any person that testifies against him or her. Lastly, it states that the accused has the right to legal counsel (an attorney).
