PDA,  | Short for personal digital assistant, a handheld device that uses touchscreen technology for user input. Its computing capabilities include telephone/fax, Internet and networking features. |
Handheld Computer,  | A portable computer that is small enough to be held in one's hand. |
Tablet PC,  | Spelled tablet PC, a type of notebook computer that has an LCD screen on which the user can write using a special-purpose pen, or stylus. |
Laptop/Notebook,  | An extremely lightweight, portable computer. Notebook computers typically weigh less than 6 pounds and are small enough to fit easily in a briefcase. |
Desktop Computer,  | A computer designed to fit on a desk, as the permanent location. They are notnot designed for portability. |
Tower Computer,  | Refers to a computer in which the power supply, motherboard, and mass storage devices are stacked on top of each other in a cabinet. |
Workstation,  | A type of computer has a more powerful processor, additional memory and enhanced capabilities for performing a special group of task, such as 3D Graphics or game development. |
Mainframe,  | A very large and expensive computer capable of supporting hundreds, or even thousands, of users simultaneously. These were huge computers that could fill an entire room or even a whole floor! |
Super Computer,  | The fastest type of computer. Supercomputers are very expensive high performance computer that and are used for specialized applications that require immense amounts of mathematical calculations. |
Grid Computing,  | A form of networking. Unlike conventional networks that focus on communication among devices, grid computing harnesses unused processing cycles of all computers in a network for solving problems too intensive for any stand-alone machine. |
Server,  | A computer or device on a network that manages network resources by providing services to other computers. These computersusually have powerful processors, lots of memory and large hard drives. |
Mini Computer,  | A minicomputer is a multiprocessing system capable of supporting from 4 to about 200 users simultaneously. Minicomputers fall in between microcomputers and mainframes. Minicomputers are normally referred to as mid-range servers now. |
PC,  | Personal Computer - designed for general use by a single person. |
Wearable Computer,  | Commonly used applications which are built into watches, clothing, and other wearable items. |
