| goal | the 8ft high by 8yrd wide area on the end line through which the ball must pass in order for one of the teams to make a point |
| kickoff | the kick to begin the game; normally used to establish possession for the kicking team |
| throw in | the restart used when the ball passes over the touchline |
| goal kick | the restart used when the ball passes over the endline last touched by the offensive team |
| corner kick | the restart used when the ball passes over the endline last touched by the defensive team |
| free kick | a restart used from the point of a foul |
| direct kick | a goal can be scored dirctly from this free kick |
| indirect kick | another player must touch the ball before a goal is scored from this free kick |
| penalty kick | a direct kick for a foul committed in the penalty area |
| red card | an ejection from the game |
| yellow card | a warning; 2 yellows = 1 red |
| pass | touching the ball from one player to another |
| shot | striking the ball directly at the goal |
| cross | playing the ball from one side of the field to the other, usually in the air |
| volley | hitting the ball out of the air |
| half-volley | hitiing the ball after one bounce |
| dribble | pushing the ball forward on the ground by one person |
| finishing | scoring a goal |
