Rules for Pronunciation and Syllabification

Pronunciation Rule #1 - If a word ends in a vowel or the letters "N" or "S"...the stress is on the 2nd from the last syllable.
If two consonants have to be separated...one goes to the prior syllable and the other to the next syllable.
Pronunciation Rule #2 - If a word ends in a consonant, except the letters "N" or "S"...the stress is on the last syllable.
"S" and "T" are...always separated, even if the "S" joins another consonant.
Pronunciation Rule #3 - An accent mark...breaks the first two rules.
A syllable is usually...formed by a consonant, followed by a vowel.
A consonant cluster is...formed by a consonant with "L" or "R"
A dipthong is...formed by "U" or "I" combined with another vowel.
Two consonants are...always separated, if possible.
Two vowels are...always separated, unless they form a dipthong.
A single "vowel" can...be a syllable.
"CH", "LL", "RR" are...single letters.
The word "vocal" is pronounced according to...Rule #2.
