| Spacing | Distance between characters, lines fields, or cells in a document. |
| Find | The command that initiates a search for a specific item in a document. |
| Replace | A command that exchanges one word or symbol for another. |
| Spell checker | Word processing option that checks a document for spelling errors and offers correcting alternatives. |
| Thersaurus | Word processing option suggesting synonyms, often including related and contrasting words and antonyms. |
| Grammar Checker | Word processing option that contains the rules for writing correctly that offers suggestions. |
| Scrolling | Moving the lines of print on a screen up and down |
| Cut | Highlighting and removing text from one location on the document with the intention of inserting in at another. (See paste.) |
| Copy | To duplicate data, graphics, text, etc. |
| Paste | To insert word or graphics from the clipboard to a document. (See cut.) |
| Format | To set the margins, tabs, font or line spacing in a document.an entire document into a given form; the form itself; to lay down areas on a disk. |
| Underline | Text format in which the selected text is underlined. |
| Bold | The type format in which the letter or character is made to appear extra thick and dark. |
| Italic | Text format in which characters take on a slanted appearance. |
| Ruler | In a word processor, a graphic device from which a user can set tabs and margines, and perform other functions. |
| Margin | Border on the left, right, top, and bottom of a document. |
| Tab | Key that, when pressed, moves the insertion point to a different place in the current line. |
| Font | A print typeface or style of characters displayed on the screen or printed to paper. |
| Columns | One of two or more vertical sections of typed lines lying side by side on a page and separated by a rule or a blank space. |
| Menu Bar | The area at the top of a window that contains a series of pull down menus (File, Edit) |
| CAPS LOCK key | Key on the keyboard that is used to key all captial letters. |
| Shift key | Key on a keyboard that is used to capitalize letters when pressed with that letter key. |
| Arrow keys | Keys on the keyboard that move the cursor left, right, up or down. |
| Backspace key | Key on the keyboard that moves the cursor to the left one space at a time and erases/deletes characters. |
| Delete key | Key on the keyboard that will erase characters after the cursor. |
| Insert key | Tap this key to put a space before the cursor so you won't erase text as you type. |
| Home key | Tap this key to bring you to the front of your typed line of text. |
| End key | Tap this key to take you to the end of your typed line of text. |
| Double spacing | The act of spacing text two lines apart on a page. |
| Centering | To place text horizontally or vertically in the middle of a page. |
