| Climax | The most exciting part of a story; the turning point. |
| Falling Action | A sequence of events where the suspense in a story dies down. |
| Resolution | An event that solves the conflict in a story. |
| Denouement | The end result of a story that ties up all loose ends. |
| Conflict | A problem or struggle between two opposing forces. |
| External Conflict | A problem a character has with an outside force. |
| Internal Conflict | A problem a character has inside of him/herself. |
| Person vs. Person | When two people have a problem with each other. |
| Person vs. Self | When a person has a mental or psychological problem within him/herself; another term for an INTERNAL conflict. |
| Person vs. Society | When a person has a problem with some part of society (laws, school, government, etc). |
| Person vs. Nature | When a person has a problem with some aspect of nature (animals, pollution, weather, etc). |
| Generational Conflict | When age or time creates a problem. |
| Cultural Conflict | When language, customes, beliefs, religion, or holidays causes a problem. |
