Did the boys deliberately kill Simon? Did they know what they were doing? | No, they killed him out of terror |
What happened to Simon's body? What happened to the parachute figure? What was similar about these two characters? | Simon's dead body moved out toward the open sea. The parachute took the figure forward, furrowing the lagoon, and bumped it over the reef and out to sea. |
How does Piggy justify Simon's murder? Why does he need to justify it if he didn't kill Simon? | It was dark and there was the bloody dance and lightning and thunder and rain and they were scared. It was an accident. Simon had no business crawling like that out of the dark. He was batty and he asked for it. |
Who is left in Ralph's group? | Piggy, Samneric, Ralph, and some little ones |

What was the double function of the fire? What does the fire symbolize? | The fire was a smoke signal for rescue and heat to cook the hunted pig. The fire was employed to send up a beckoning column of smoke; but the other was to be a hearth now and a comfort until they slept. The fire symbolized hope and there was something good about a fire. |
What didn't the hunters steal the conch? What does the conch symbolize? Why did the hunters steal the glasses? | The conch symbolizes democracy and order and the savages were not interested in that.
