Homestead Act(1862) law that resulted in the decline of Indians and buffalo in the Great Plains and the settlement of western territories; the act provided free land to settlers and bolstered construction of the transcontinental railroads because it gave the order to kill all of the buffalo in the Great Plains and the buffalo happened to be food for the Plain Indians
Great Plainsthe area that was directly affected by the Homestead Act; was also home to buffalo and the Plain Indians
