Muscles are named by their shape, size, origins or insertions or by their movement.

latissimus dorsi | swimming or rowing muscle; large broad flat muscle covering the middle and lower back |
abdominal muscles | includes external and internal oblique, transverse and rectus |
tricep brachii | extends the forearm; boxing muscle |
intercostals | barbecued ribs |
biceps brachii | muscle that flexes the forearm |
diaphragm | important breathing muscle |
deltoid | muscle that forms the rounded portion of the shoulder |
