| Document Window | Displays text, tables, graphics and other items as you type them |
| Insertion Point | A blinking vertical bar that indicates where text will be inserted |
| Mouse Pointer | Becomes different shapes, depending on the task you are performing |
| Horizontal Ruler | Is used to set tab stops, indent paragraphs, adjust column widths and change page margins |
| Vertical Ruler | Displayed at the left edge of the Word window |
| Scroll Bars | Allows you to display different portions of your document |
| Status Bar | Displays at the bottom of the window, gives you information about the location of the insertion point |
| Menu Bar | A special toolbar that displays Word menu names |
| Standard Toolbar | Contains buttons such as Open, Print, Copy and Save |
| Formatting Toolbar | Contains buttons such as Font Size, Italic, Align Left and Line Spacing |
| View Buttons | Located at the bottom left corner of the document window, they determine the way a document is displayed on screen. |
| Status Indicators | Used to turn certain keys or modes on or off. Word displays four: REC, TRK, EXT and OVR. |
| Task Pane | A separate window that allows you to carry out tasks more efficiently. |
| Close buttton | Located in the upper right hand corner of the Word window, it closes out the entire program. |
| Close window button | Located below the close button, it closes the window only. |
| Minimize button | Located in the upper right corner of the window, clicking it will temporarily hide the window without closing it. |
| Maximize button | Located in the upper right corner of the window, clicking it will expand the window. |
