| Variable | A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change. In the expression 2x + 3, x is the variable. |
| Constant | A value that does not change. In the expression x + 8. 8 is a constant. |
| Algebraic expression | An expression that contains at least 1 variable. For example: x + 8 or 4(m + b) |
| Evaluate | To find the value of a numerical or algebraic expression by replacing variables with numbers. |
| Function Table | A table of ordered pairs that represents solutions of a function or a table organizing the input, rule, and output of a function. |
| Add | Sum, more than, increased by, plus, altogether, in all, total |
| Subtract | Decreased by, less than, difference, minus, how many more |
| Multiply | Product, double, triple, times, of |
| Divide | Quotient, dividend, divisor, into, separated |
| Equation | A mathematical sentence showing 2 expressions that are equivalent (equal). For example: x + 4 = 7 |
| Solution | A value or values that make an equation true. For example: x = 4 is the solution to the equation x + 2 = 6. |
| Inverse | Operations that undo each other: addition and subtraction, or multiplication and division. |
