| Sidelines | 2 boundry lines that run the lenght of the court |
| Starting lineup | The 5 starters who being a game, usually a teams best players |
| Substitute | A player who comes into the game to replace a player on the court |
| Team fouls | each personal foul committed by a player is also committed against his team, when a player goes over the limit its opponant is awarded freethrow oppertunities |
| Timeout | When play is temporarily suspended by an official or at the request of a team to discuss strategy or respond to an injured player, there are full timeouts (100 seconds in the NBA, 75 seconds in college) and 20 second timeouts |
| Traveling | A floor violation when the ball handler takes too many steps with out dribbling, also called walking |
| Zone defense | A defense ised extensivly in college but not permitted in the NBA, where each player is responsible for an area of the court and must guard any player who enters that area. |
