| Pathology | the study of the structure and function of the body as it is affected by disease |

| Contagious Disease | disease that are easily transmitted from one person to another |
| Infectious Disease | disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms |
| Infestation | refers to the presence of macroscopic organisms in or on the body |
| Idiopathic Disease | a disease in which the cause of the disease is not known |
| Endemic Disease | disease that are always present to some degree in a give area or community |
| Sporadic Disease | diseases which are found to occur only occasionally in a community |
| Epidemic Disease | disease which affect a much larger than normal number of people in the community at one time |
| Pandemic Disease | a disease that affect the majority of the population in a very large area, possibly even the world |
| Prevalence | refers to the number of cases of a disease within a certain population at a given time |
| Acquired Disease | is often used to categorize any disease which was obtained after birth |
| Congenital Disease | disease which is present at birth |
| Heriditary Disease | a disease that results form the fact that a person inherited some sort of abnormal genes from his/her parents |
| Febrile Disease | disease that is characterized by fever |
| Intoxicating Disease | disease characterized by the presence of poisons or other toxic substances |
| Deficiency Disease | disease characterized by teh lack of some essential dietary ingredient |
