| Cold Boot | To turn on or restart a computer by simply turning it off waiting a few seconds and turning it back on again. |
| Warm boot | To restart(Reset) a computer by pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE |
| Boot Disk | A write protected floppy disk that contains the computers system and startup files |
| Boot Sector | A portion of a disk that contains the coded instructions for the operating system to start the computer. |
| Safe mode | This is in windows 95, a mode that loads when windows crashes or doesnt load up |
| Scanner | A device used to open an image from a photo or phisical source (such as a photograph) into a computer |

| MTBF | Mean time between failures. this is a time, normally given in hours, that predicts the failure of a device. |

| Display adapter | A pc expansion board that converts the images created in the computer to the electronics signals requires by the monitor |
| LUN | (Logical Unit Number) The physical number of a device in a daisy chain of drives. |
| AT commands | A series of machine instructions used to activate features on an intelligent modem. |
| Asychrounous | Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The ability to initiate a transmission at either end. |
