NominativeSubject of the sentence (what is the sentence about? WHO/WHICH/WHAT)
GenitivePossessor (WHOSE is it?)
DativeIndirect object, person TO WHOM something is give, shown, or told, or FOR WHOM something is done)
Accusativedirect object (receiver of the action, comes after the verb in English. WHOM?) Can also be the object of most prepositions and can express duration of time (multos annos: for many years)
Ablativetells you how something was done (with a bat, BY WHAT, BY WHOM?) can also tell you when something happened (die quinto = on the fifth day) or can be the object of some prepositions (cum, in, de, e (ex), a (ab), sub, sine)
