| Effort Force | your pull or push |
| Resistance Force | exerted by the weight of the load |
| Pulley | a wheel fixed to a support - works by changing the direction of the effort force and letting you use your body's weight to support that force |
| Single Pulley | have a mechanical advantage of 1 - where effort force and resistance force are the same |
| Double Pulley | one pulley attached to the load and one pulley attached to a fixed support - the effort force is 1/2 the resistance force |
