| Dependency | When a drug is used regularly you find it difficult to live without it. |
| Addiction | You cannot manage without taking the drug |
| Withdrawal symptoms | When you try to stop taking a drug you are addicted to you get things like headaches, vomiting, terrors or even fits. |
| Overdose | Taking too much of the drug can often lead to death. |
| Drug classification | The government have put drugs into groups based on how dangerous they are, there are 3 groups- A, B and C. |
| Hard drugs | CLASS A drugs are often called this |
| Soft drugs | CLASS B and CLASS C drugs |
| Gateway drug | A drug that people use that will lead onto them taking harder drugs like cocaine and heroin. |
| CLASS A | heroin, LSD, opium, cocaine, crack, ecstasy |
| CLASS B | codeine and some strong pain killers, barbiturates and amphetamines |
| CLASS C | mild amphetamines, tranquilizers and cannabis |
| Sharing needles | Can cause HIV and HEPATITIS |
| Cocaine | makes you happy and excited but long term can make you depressed |
| Heroin | can make you happy but can collapse your veins or cause liver damage |
| Cannabis | can cause psychological dependence |
