measure-To discover the exact size, amount, portion; to be of a particular size. Ex. Let’s measure the space to see if it will fit.
metaphor -An expression which describes a person or object in a literary way by referring to something that is considered to have similar characteristics to the person or object you are trying to describe. Ex. Metaphor and simile are the most commonly used figures of speech in everyday language.
Method-A particular way of doing something. Ex. Traveling by train is still one of the safest methods of transport.
Model-A copy or image, a pattern. To construct or fashion in imitation of a particular model. A set of planes for a building, to mimic in a smaller form. To display by wearing, using or posing. Ex. The meeting will show a model of his finished building project.
Modify-To change something such as a plan, opinion, law or way of behavior; usually to improve it or make it more acceptable. Ex. Instead of simply punishing them, the system encourages offenders to modify their behavior.
Monitor-A person who has the job watching or noticing particular things. Ex. They will monitor the progress of the test scores.
Motivation-Enthusiasm for doing something. Ex. He’s a bright enough student, but lacks motivation.
Narrative-A story or a description or a series of events. Ex. It’s a moving narrative of wartime adventure.
Narrator-The character who tells you what is happening in a book or film. Ex. The narrator described the book in detail.
Never-Not at any time or not on any occasion. Ex. We’ve never been to Australia.
Notation-A system of written symbols used especially in mathematics or to represent musical notes. Ex. He used scientific notation for the theory.
Note -A short piece of writing. Ex. He left a note to say he would home late.
Notice-To see or become conscious of something or someone. Ex. Did you notice the crack in the ceiling?
Objective-Something which you plan to do or achieve. Ex. Her main objective is to convince the jury.
Observe-To watch carefully the way something happens or the way someone does something, especially in order to learn more about it. Ex. The role of scientists is to observe and describe the world.
Occur-To happen or take place, as in an event, circumstance, episode. Ex. If any of these symptoms occur while taking your medicine, consult your doctor.
Optional-If something is optional, you can choose whether to do it, pay it or buy it. Ex. English is a mandatory course for this semester, but art and music is optional.
Origins-The beginning or cause of something. Ex. It’s a book about the origin of the universe.
Organize-To make arrangements for something to happen. Ex. I will organize my pictures in a photo album.
Opinion-A thought or belief about something or someone. Ex. He did not express his opinion on the matter.
Translate-To change words into different language. Ex. The tutor needed to translate the sentence from English to Spanish.
Typically-In a way that shows all the characteristics that you would expect from the stated person, thing or group. Ex. Typically, a doctor will see thirty patients a day.
Unique-Being the only existing one of its type or, more generally, unusual or special in some way. Ex. Everyone has their own unique personality.
Utilize-To use something in an effective way. Ex. He will utilize the weights to his advantage.
Valid-Based on truth or reason, able to be accepted. Ex. My passport is valid for two more years.
