| grass stage | the early period in a long leaf pin seedling, where it hs not above ground stem. Looks more like a clump of grass than a tree. |
| keystone species | a species on which a group of animals and plants depend for survival or success. |
| logged | Cutting down trees to produce forest products such as lumber, poles, and paper. |
| nutrient | Any food or element of a plant or animal needs to live, grow, and reproduce. |
| understory | The plants that grown on and are limited to the forest floor. They are often grasses and herbaceous plants. |
