Each part of the Flower has a SPECIFIC Function.

Petalused to attract insects into the flower, can be colorful and/or scented.
sepalswhen the bud appears, the covering that protects and supports the petals.
pistilfemale part of the flower that produces the seeds - consists of 3 parts: stigma, style & ovary.
stigmathe top of the pistil - the pollen grains stick to this small sticky pad.
stylemiddle structure of the pisitl; the pollen grains grow down through this stem-like cylinder.
ovarywhere the young seeds (ovules) are protected - once fertilization takes place - it will become the fruit & mature seeds will develop.
ovuleyoung unfertilizied gamete - found in the ovary
stamenmale part of the flower-slender structures that hold the pollen, consists of two parts: anther & filament.
anthertop part of the stamen;contains pollen sacs. The sacs release pollen to the outside of the anther where insects brush against the anther - insects then transfer pollen from flower to flower.
filamentpart of the stamen,a slender stem that supports the anther.
nectarywhere a sugary solution called nectar is held to attract insects.
