| Fare Basis Code | A grouping of letters and numbers used by an airline to designate the rules and restrictions of an airfare |
| First Class | Generally, the most expensive fare available on a flight |
| Fuel Surcharge | An additional charge for an airline’s fuel that is 'passed on' to the customer and added to the price of a ticket |
| Global Distribution System | A term used to describe the computer reservation system used by an airline |
| En-route | This occurs once a customer departs on their outbound flight |
| Inbound | The return portion of an itinerary |
| Interline Agreement | Cooperation between airlines for policies such as transferring bags from one airline to the another |
| International Air Transport Association | determines common policies for international travel such as baggage and fare rules |
| Layover | An extended period on the ground between flights in an itinerary |
| Minimum Connection Time | The amount of time needed to transport baggage and customers between aircraft when making connections |
| Minimum / Maximum Stay | Rules that apply to an airline’s fare, regulating the the shortest and longest amount of time a customer can stay at a destination |
| Non-Stop Flight | A flight that makes no stops between its Origin and Destination |
| Non-Refundable | An airline ticket that has no monetary value if the itinerary is cancelled |
| Non-Transferable | A ticket, coupon or document, such an MCO, that is valid only for the person named on it |
| Offline Connection | A change of planes in an itinerary that involves more than one airline |
| One Way | An itinerary that does not include a return flight to the customer's originating city |
| Online Connection | A connection (change of aircraft) between flights that involves only one airline |
| Other Service Information | An area in an airline reservation where messages or information is sent to and received from airlines |
| Outbound | The portion of an itinerary where travel departs from |
| Passenger Name Record | A record of an itinerary that is stored in a GDS |
| Miscellaneous Charge Order | A voucher issued by a Travel Exchange in exchange for money given to them for a product or service |
| Pseudo City Code | A “fake” city code used by a Travel Agency to identify them in the GDS |
| Queues | “Holding areas” in a GDS for PNRs |
| Record Locator | A set of letters and numbers used to retrieve a PNR in a GDS |
| Red Eye Flight | Any airline flight departure usually after 10:00pm that arrives early the next morning |
| Reissue | Reprinting or rewriting an existing airline ticket |
| Round Trip | A trip that has one destination and returns to the originating city |
| Routing | A specific guideline or list of cities used by airlines for transportation between two points |
| Special Service Request | A PNR field used to request a special service or action that generates a message to the airlines |
| Stopover | A city in which a customer stays for more than 24 hours for interantion flights |
| Ticket Issuance | The actual purchase and ticketing of an air itinerary |
| Upgrade | The process of buying a ticket for one aircraft cabin and using arline miles or paying an extra amount of money to move to the next cabin |
