Free-statersPeople who did not want to see slavery in any new parts of the United States, but felt that slavery should be allowed where it had already been.
Popular sovereigntyThe idea that the people who lived in a territiory should decide if slavery should be allowed
Kansas Nebraska ActAn act passed by congress that allowed the lands that would become Kansas and Nebraska to be opend for settlement. This act also said that each territory would have to decide if slavery would by allowed or not(popular sovereignty).
Clarina NicholsA leader in the effort to give women equal rights in the Kansas territory
Dread ScottA slave who sued in order to gain his freedom, he lost the court case
Territorial PeriodThe yhears after the Kansas Nebraska act, but before Kansas was accepted as astate.
