| find and replace | A program that quickly locates every occurrence of a word or string od data and replaces it with a different word or string of data. |
| form | A set of data-entry fields used for gathering information form people visiting a Web site. |
| frames | An area on a frames page that displays a Web page. |
| frames page | An HTML page that divides the browser window into different areas for displaying multiple Web pages on teh screen at the same time. |
| GIF | Graphics Interchange Format. One of the common formats for storing image files; used for images that contain primarily solid colors, such as charts, graphs, and drawn illustrations. |
| hits | The number of time Web surfers visit a site. |
| home page | The top-level Web page, which serves as the starting point for exploring the site and contains an introduction to the other pages. |
| hotspot | An invisible region on an image thatcontains a hyperlink. |
| hover button | A button that will display a special effect when a mouse pointer moves over it or clicks it. |
| hyperlinks | Connections that allow a user to jump quickly from one page to another. |
| Hypertext Markup Language HTML | The computer language in which Web pages are written. |
| Hypertext Transport Protocol | A set of communication rules used to connect to servers on the Web. |
| image map | An image with one or more hotspots. |
| internal links | Hyperlinks connecting to another page in teh same site. |
| Internet Protocol (IP) | A unique number that serves as the computer's Internet address. |
| Internet service prvider (ISP) | A company that sells connections to the Internet to individuals or businesses. |
| intranet | A company's internal network, set up to allow employee to access company reports and documents using a Web browser from their computer. |
| Java | A programming language that can create interactive Web pages. |
| JPEG | Joint Photographic Experts Group. One of the common formats for storing image files, best for storing high-resolution color images, such as scanned photographs or images with more than 256 colors. |
| main frame | The frame on a frames page, usually on the right, that displays the Web page selected from teh contents frame. |
| marquee | Region on a Web page that displays a horizontally scrolling text message. |
| network | Computers connected together so that they can communicate with each other. |
| page | The basic document of the Web, which can combine text, video, audio, and animation in a graphical format. |
| page transitions | Special effects that affect an entire Web page when a user enters or leaves the page. |
| pixel | One dot on the computer screen. |
| publishing | Copying files and folders onto a Web server, creating a Web site that Internet surfers can see. |
| row | A horizontal list of data in a table. |
| search form | A FrontPage component that allows visitors to search a stie for specific words or phrases. |
| server | A central computer that supplies data and resources to the other computers connected to the network. |
| shared borders | A region common to one or more pages, such as navigation bars, taht you may want to appear consistently throughout your Web site. |
| subwebs | Web sites contained within another Web site. |
| table | A set of data organized in columns and row to make the data easier to compare. |
| tasks | Activities to be performed on a FrontPage Web and displayed as a list in the FrontPage Tasks view. |
| template | A ready-made framework of a Web page that can be customized. |
| theme | A collection of design elements that can be applied to a Web site or individual page to crate an appealing and cohesive Web site. |
| transparent | A special effect that eliminates a selected color in an image, allowing the background color of the page to show through the image where the color used to be. |
| URL | Uniform Resourse Locator. The address of a Web page. |
| view | A way of looking at a Web page in FrontPage 2000. |
| washout | A low-resolution, high-contrast look applied to an image by using the washout button on the picture toolbar. |
| Web browser | A program used to acces the Web. |
| Webmaster | The person responsible for creating and maintaining a Web site. |
| WWW | World Wide Web. An information retrieval system that organizes the Internet's resources in a graphical fashion. |
