Designs | A consistent look contained within a publication. |
Logo | Distinctive shape, symbol, or color that visibly identifies a company, organization, or product. |
Template | A specially formatted publication of your own design with placeholder text that serves as a master for other, similar publications. |
Backstage View | The display access by clicking the File tab, which contains commands needed to perform action common to most Office programs. |
Workspace | Text reshaped so it conforms to the shape of a nearby image or other objects. |
Title Bar | The area at the top of the window where the program name and the filename of the open publication appear. |
Tab Bar | Area that displays tabs that contain buttons that are organized in tast-based categories. |
Home Tab | The tab on the Ribbon that contains buttons for the most frequently use Publisher commands. |
Ribbon | Area in the Publisher window that contains tabs grouped by tasks. |
Formatting tools | Commands that display in the Font and Paragraph groups of the Home tab and contains buttons for frequently used text formatting such as bold, italics, or underlining. |
Rulers | Horizontal and vertical measurement guides located beneath the Ribbon and to the left of the workspace that let you precisely measure the size of objects and place objects in exact location on a page. |
Scratch Area | The gray area surrounding the publication page that can be used to store objects such as design elements. |
Pages Pane | Area that shows you how many pages are in the current publication, which pages are active, and allows you to navigate the pages. |
Status Bar | Located at the bottom of the Publisher window; provides information relevant to the current task. |
Page Indicators | Located on the left side of the status bar, shows you the numbers of pages in a publication and indicates which page is active. |
Pane | The area of the Publisher window that is a visual gallery and appears alongside your publication. |
Text Box | Objects in which text is typed, that can be resized and repositioned on a page. |
Point Size | The measurement of the height of a character. 1/72 of an inch equals one point. |
Handles | Small hollow circles displayed around the perimeter of a selected object. |
Placeholders | Design element provided by Publisher that you can replace with your own information to customize a publication. |
Ruler Guides | Green horizontal and vertical lines that appear on the screen to help you position objects on a page, but do not print. |
Objects | An element such as a table, text box, geometric shape, clip art, and picture frame that can be resized, moved, joined, or layered. |
Printing | Creates an output from a publication into paper form. |
Help | Feature that gives you immediate access to definitions, explanations, and useful tips on working in Publisher. |
Business Information Sets | An unlimited number of distinct sets of information that can be used to store frequently used information such as names, addresses, and phone numbers, which can be placed automatically in publications. |
Start screen | A landing page that appears when you first start an Office app. |
Screen Tip | A label that describes what each button does. |
