Types of Numbers

Use this activity to help you identify types of numbers.

Rational NumbersAny number obtained when an integer or 0 is is divided by an integer. Examples: 2/3, 9/7, 5/1 (or 5), 0, and -3/4. All counting numbers and zero are rational numbers.
IntegersThe set of numbers {...,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,...}. Basically, the counting numbers, their negatives, and zero.
Whole NumbersThe set of numbers including {0,1,2,3,4,....}
Counting NumbersThe set of numbers including {1,2,3,4,....}
Prime NumbersA number such as 2,5,7,11,.....that has only itself and one as factors. 1 is NOT a prime number!
Zero0
Positive IntegersThe set of numbers {1,2,3,4,....}
Negative IntegersThe set of numbers {...,-4,-3,-2,-1}
