Floating Images | Have a transparent background so they can be placed in front of other pictures. |
Primary Color | Pigments. One that cannot be created by mixing other colors in the gamut of a given color space. |
Channel | All of the pixels of the same color, identified using the color modes. Used in Photoshop to separate and store information about an image's colors so that users can manipulate them. |
Alpha Channels | Also called extra channels. In addition to the default color channels, extra channels, called alpha channels, are used for storing and editing selections as masks; and spot color channels can be added to incorporate spot color plates for printing. |
Spor Color Plate | An extra part of the separation printing process that applies a single color to areas of the artwork. |
Channels Panel | Used to create and manage channels. Lists all channels in the image - the composite channel first, then each individual color channel, followed by any spot color channels,a nd finally any alpha channels. |
Alpha Channel Mask | A special channel that saves and loads selection marquees. |
Color Toning | The process of changing or intensifyng the color of a photograph after it has been processed by the camera. |

Sepia | Color toning technique resulting in a reddish-brown tint. |
Duotone | A generic term for a variety of grayscale images printed with the addition of one, two, three, or four inks. |
Logo | An emblem or a symbol that a company uses to identify or brand itself. |
Action | An automation task that stores a series of commands and keystrokes for repeated use later. |
Stops | Actions might include stops, or places in the series of steps that pause during the playback, waiting for the user to perform a task, such as choosing a brush size. |
Model Controls | ctions might also include Modal Controls that stop to let you enter values in a dialog box while playing an action. |
Actions Panel | Helps you manage actions you have created and those predefined actions that come with Photoshop. |
Action Set | An organizational folder that includes multiple actions, and can be opened or expanded by clicking the triangle to the left of the action set. |
Color Model | A numeric presentation of the colors in digital images. |
Color Mode | Determines which color model is used to display and print the image. A mode is based on a model. |
Imterpolation | The mathematical process of adding or subtracting pixels in an image, either to enlarge or reduce the siz. |
Image Setter | A high-resolution output device that can transfer electronic files directly to photosensitive paper, plates, or film. |
Prepress Tasks | The various pringing-related services performed before ink actually is put on the printed page. |
