| 1st Amendment | Protects our Free speech, freedom of religion, and the freedom to peacafully gather and protest |

| 5th Amendment | This amendment protects the rights of the accused. A person found innocent of a crime may not be tried again under the same offense. People may not be forced to testify against themselves. No one may be imprisoned, or deprived of property or freedom without a fair trial. The government may not take private property for public use without paying the owner a fair price |
| 6th Amendment | This amendment protects the rights of people in criminal proceedings. People accused of a crime must be given a speedy fair trial. The accused must be informed of the charges against them and witnesses must testify in open court |
| 7th Amendment | In federal court where lawsuits involve more than twenty dollars a trial by jury is guaranteed |
| 8th Amendment | People may pay bail as collateral to make sure the accused appears in court. Bail must be reasonable. Bail may be denied for those accused of serious crimes like murder. This amendment also protects against cruel and unusual punishment |
| 9th Amendment | This amendment shows that the rights listed in the Constitution are not limited to the ones listed |
| 10th Amendment | This amendment safeguards the powers of the states. After the fourteenth amendment applied the bill of rigths to the states however the state powers have come under scrutiny |
