| BASE | The bottom of the microscope (the part it sits on) |
| LIGHT SOURCE | project light through the stage opening so that you can see your slide |
| ON/OFF SWITCH | Turns the microscope light on and off |
| EYEPIECE | At the very top of the microscope is the part you look into. It will also magnify a specimen 10X the actual size. |
| BARREL or the TUBE | eyepiece is attached to the top end of this cylinder. |
| STAGE | a square, flat, black slab of metal with an opening in the middle of it |
| DIAPHRAGM | The dial under the stage that adjusts the amount of light that gets through the hole in the middle of the stage. |
| BASE DIMMER CONTROL | On the bottom, right side of the base is a dial that also allows you to adjust the brightness of the light. |
| STAGE CLAMP | It is for holding the microscope slide in place. |
| OBJECTIVE LENSES | Hanging just above the stage are two or three pointed tubes. |
| NOSEPIECE | You can use the different objective lenses by turning this. |
| COARSE ADJUSTMENT | The large knob is ALWAYS USED FIRST. |
| FINE ADJUSTMENT | The smaller knob is then used to bring the slide into sharp focus. |
| STAGE ADJUSTMENTS | The larger, top knob moves the stage up and down vertically. The smaller bottom knob moves the slide back and forth horizontally. |
