| Help | Used to get help with a program or feature. |
| Insertion Point | Can be moved throughout the document without interfering with text by using the mouse, the keyboard, or the mouse combined with the keyboard. |
| Scroll Bar | Iitem on the vertical scroll bar indicates the location of the text in the document in relation to the remainder of the document. |
| Horizontal Ruler | Displays horizontally above the document window and is used to set margins, indents, and tabs. |
| Office Button | Displays as a Microsoft Office logo and, when clicked, displays a list of options along with the most recently opened documents. |
| Quick Access Toolbar | Displays to the right of the Office button and contains buttons for commonly used commands. |
| Ribbon | An area containing the tabs and commands divided into groups. |
| Status Bar | Located at the bottom of the Microsoft Word program and displays number of pages and words, View buttons, and the Zoom sliber bar. |
| Taskbar | Part of Windows XP and displays the Start button. |
| Title Bar | Located at the top of the Microsoft Word window and displays the document name followed by the program name. |
| Tabs | Contains commands and features organized into groups. |
| Vertical Ruler | Displays vertically to the left of the document window and is used to set top and bottom margins. |
| I-Beam Pointer | Used to move the insertion point or to select text. |
| Vertical Scroll Bar | Used to view various parts of the document. |
| Double-Click | How you quickly select a word. |
| Save as | Use this command to save an existing document with a new filename. |
| Desktop | The screen on your monitor. Your main work area on your computer. |
| Icons | Picture symbols for programs and documents on your desktop. |
| Start Button | Located in the lower left corner of the Taskbar. |
| Mouse | A tool for getting around the desktop. |
| Point | Moving the mouse so that the pointer points to an item. |
| Click | Pressing the left mouse button once and letting go. |
| Drag | Pressing and holding down the left mouse button and moving the pointer to another location. |
| Right-Click | Pressing the right mouse button once and letting go. |
| Window | The place that software displays on the monitor. |
| Close button | Button in the upper right corner of a window. Displays as a red X. Used to close the window or program. |
| Restore button | Button in the upper right corner of a window. Displays as an overlapping square. Used to make a window or program smaller so you have the ability to resize the window. |
| Maximize button | Button in the upper right corner of a window. Displays as a square. Used to make a window or program fill the entire screen area. |
| Minimize button | Button in the upper right corner of a window. Displays as a - . Used to minimize a window or program to the taskbar. |
| Groups | Shown below the commands of a the tab in Microsoft Office. |
| Menu Bar | May appear at the top of your application window just under the title bar. It offers choices. |
| Toolbars | Let you choose commances quickly and easily. They consist of icons or buttons that represent commands. |
| Keyboard Shortcuts | Shortcuts used to open menus or execute commands. |
| Dialog Box | A box that gives you setup options for your document. |
