| RJ-45 | A telephone connector that holds up to eight wires. |
| Cat 5 | Based on the EIA/TIA-568 standard, 100 Mbps data. |
| BNC Connector | A commonly used plug and socket for audio, video and networking applications. |
| Fiber-optic cable | A cable which has a center of glas or strands of plastic which transfers digitally encoded laser beams. |
| Netwok adapter | Allows computers running on different makes, models and OS systems to comunicate with each other over Internet or LAN. |
| Half duplex | The transmission of data in both directions, but only one direction at a time. |
| Full duplex | Transmitting and receiving simultaneously. In pure digital networks, this is achieved with two pairs of wires. |
| TCP/IP | First saw usage on the original Department of Defense Internet in 1983. Its first implementation was amazingly successful, and it is still the protocol of the internet. |
