Tricuspid Valve | right AV valve. |
Chordae Tendinae | white, tendonous chords. |
Pulmonary Semilunar Valves | Valve at the entrance of the pulmonary trunk from the right ventricle. |
Aortic Semilunar Valve | Valve guarding the entrance to the aorta from the left ventricle. |
Sinoatrial Node | Crescent-shaped node of tissue in the right atrium that is the pacemaker |
Atriovetricular Node | Node at the junction of the atria and ventricles. |
Bundle of His | Atrioventricular bundle that sends the atrial rhythm to the ventricles |
Purkinje Fibers | spread within the muscle of the ventricle walls causing them to contract |
Pacemaker | The SA node. |
Tachycardia | A rapid heart rate. |
Bradycardia | A heart rate substantially slower than normal. |
Systole | Contraction. |
Diastole | Relaxation. |
Cardiac Output | The amount of blood pumped out by each side of the heart in one minute. |
Heart Rate | The number of heart beats occuring within a specific amount of time. |
Stroke Volume | The volume of blood pumped out by a ventricle with each heartbeat. |
Arteries | A vessel that carries blood away from the heart. |
Arterioles | A small artery that feeds the capillaries. |
Capillary Beds | A mass of capillaries. |
Venules | A small blood vessel that transfers blood from the capillaries to the veins. |
Veins | A blood vessel that carries blood to the heart. |
Tunica Intima | Thin layer of endothelium that lines the interior of blood vessels |
Tunica Media | The bulky middle coat of blood vessels that is mostly smooth muscle and fibers. |
Tunica Externa | The outermost layer of blood vessels made of connective tissue |
Vital Signs | Measurements of arterial pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate & body temp. |
Pulse | Pressure wave that is created when the left ventricle contracts |
Vasoconstriction | Narrowing of the blood vessels. |
Hypotension | Low blood pressure. |
Hypertension | High blood pressure. |
Interstitial Fluid | The liquid inside the space where substances first diffuse from capillaries |
