volcano,  | an opening in the Earth's surface |
ocean,  | large body of salt water |
tributary,  | a stream or river that flows into a larger stream or river |
strait,  | narrow strip of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
tundra,  | cold dry region where trees cannot grow |
natural resources,  | something found in nature that people can use |
irrigation,  | the use of canals, ditches, or pipes to move water to dry areas |
renewable,  | able to be made or grown again by nature or people |
non-renewable,  | not able to be made again quickly by nature or people |
erosion,  | the wearing down of Earth's surface, ususally by wind or water |

degree,  | a unit of measurement for latitude and longitude |

regions,  | an area of the earth in which many features are similar |
| latitude (parallels) | a measure of distances north and south of the equator; imaginary lines that are parallel and numbered in degrees north and south of the equator |
longitude,  | a measure of distances east and west of the prime meridian; imaginary parallel lines that intersect at the poles, numbered in degrees east or west of the prime meridian |
