DownloadThe process of transferring programs or information from one computer to another.
Internet Service Provider (ISP)A company that charges a fee to provide you with easy access to the Internet. (Ntelos, Comcast, Verizon)
Commercial On-line ServicesCompanies who provide you with access to the Internet. They provide customer support and topics such as news, weather, and travel information. Often more expensive than ISPs.(AOL)
E-mail (electronic mail)A popular use of the Internet that allows you to send and receive electronic mail messages.
E-mail AddressAn electronic address that has two parts (user name and domain name) separated by the @ (at) symbol.
User NameThe first part of the e-mail address. It is usually the first name or part of the persons real name.
Domain NameThe second part of the e-mail address. It identifies the Internet service provider’s address.
SmileyGroup of characters typed to like a human face. They are used to help express emotion in an e-mail.
FlameAn angry message e-mailed to someone.
Bounced MessageA message that is returned to you because of an error of some kind. (mailer daemon)
ShoutingA message typed in all caps.
AttachmentA document or file you send with an e-mail message. Think of it as an enclosure in a letter.
NetiquetteA word used to describe some basic rules to guide you when composing a proper e-mail message.
CyberbullyingUse of communication technologies to harrass an individual or group that is intended to harm.
Social NetworkingUse of a Web site to communicate with other members of the site by posting messages, photos, etc.
TwitterPopular instant messaging system that lets a person send brief text messages to a list of followers.
Blog (Web Log)A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.
Cc notationUsed when you want to send a copy of your message to someone other than the recipient.
Bcc notationBlind carbon copy. Keeps senders names and address hidden from view of other email recipients.
SignatureUsually your name and perhaps your e-mail address at the end of the body of an e-mail.
ForwardingSending a copy of an e-mail message you have received, to another person.
Newsgroups (Forum)Discussion group for exchanging ideas on a specific topic. To join you subscribe to it similar to subscribing to a magazine.
FAQDocuments that list the most commonly asked questions and answers related to a specific newsgroup.
