| body | The text that makes up the main content of a Web page. |
| browser | A software program that requests a Web page, interprets the HTML codes and text used to create the page, and then displays the Web page on your computer screen. |
| cell | The intersection of a row and column. |
| dimmed command | Displays in a faint type, indicates that it is not available for the current selection. |
| domain name | Identifies the Web server or computer on the Internet where the Web document is located. |
| full menu | Lists all of the commands associated with a menu. |
| hidden command | A recessed command that does not display on the short menu. |
| home page | First page of a Web site that provides information about the site's purpose and content. |
| horizontal rule | Lines that display across the page to separate different sections of the page. |
| host | A Web server that delivers (serves) requested Web pages. |
| hotspot | A section of an image map that instructs the browser to link to another file. |
| html | The formatting language that tells the browser how to display text and images, how to set up list boxes, hyperlinks and other elements. |
| http | The URL protocol. |
| hyperlink | An area of the page that you click on to instruct the browser to go to a location in a file or to request a file from a Web server. |
| image map | A special type of inline image that is divided into sections. |
| inline graphic | An image or graphic that is not part of the page's HTML file itself. |
| ordered list | A numbered list |
| short menu | Lists only basic or the most recently used commands |
| source code | HTML source |
| status bar | Located near the bottom of the FrontPage window, consists of the message area and a download time indicator. |
| tags | Special instructions to define the characteristics of items found in a Web page. |
| title bar | Appears near the top and displays the application name, Microsoft FrontPage, and the location of the current FrontPage web. |
| tiled | A background color or graphic that can be repeated across the entire page. |
| unordered list | A bulletted list. |
| URL | A unique Web address. |
| view | Provides different ways of looking at the information in a web. |
| Web | Consists of worldwide collection of electronic documents that have built-in links to other related documents. |
| short cut menu | Contains a lists of commands that are related to the items to which you are pointing when you right-click. |
| image folder | Holds any imge files used in the FrontPage web. |
| _private folder | Holds files that you can use on the Web pages in the current web, but do not want people who are browsing your web to access individually. |
| index.htm | Serves as the home page for your Web. |
| theme | A unified set of of design elements and color schemes fo rbullets, fonts, graphics, navigation bars, and otehr page elements. |
| vivid colors check box | Changes the theme's normal set of colors to a brigher color scheme. |
| active graphic check box | Animates certain graphic elements. |
| background picture check box | Applies a textured background image to the pages in the current web. |
| Normal tab | Default tab in Page view, you make changes to your Web page in this tab. |
| WYSIWYG | What you see is what you get. |
| Preview tab | Allows you to preview your page as it will display when viewed by a site visitor. |
| component | A dynamic, built-in FrontPage object that is evalued and executed when you save the page or when you display the page in a Web browser. |
| hit counter component | Keeps track of the number of visitors to a Web site. |
| search form component | Creates a form that provides full text searching capability in a web. |
| component cursor | The mouse pointer changes to hand holding a written list. |
| horizontal nagivation bar | On the top of the page is used for parent-child navigation. |
| vertical navigation bar | On the left-side of the page is used for same-level navigation. |
| mailto protocol | An Internet protocol used to send electronic mail. |
| GIF | Graphics Interchange Format. Supports up to 256 colors. Used for line art, grayscale images, and simple graphics. |
| JPEG | Joint Photographic Expert Group. Supports up to 16.7 million colors. Used for true-color photographic images. |
| PNG | Portable Network Graphics. Supports up to 16.7 million colors. Patent-free replacement for the GIF. Not yet widely used. |
| ISP | Internet Service Provider. An organization that has a permanent connection for a fee. |
| FTP | File Transfer Pragram. A method of transferring files over the Internet. |
