AB
AI – Adobe IllustratorIt is the Industry standard that is used by developers of vector graphics. It is used to create, save, and archive original artwork.
AnimationIt is the rapid display of a sequence of images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions in order to create an illusion of movement.
BMP - BitmapIt is a type of image file format used to store digital images. The term comes from the computer programming terminology, meaning a spatially mapped array of bits. They are also called Raster images files.
CDR – Corel DrawIt is a vector graphics file format developed and marketed by Corel Corporation.
Color depthThe number of bits per pixel that can be displayed on a computer screen. The more bits per pixel, the more colors displayed and each bit is composed of 2 values: 0 and 1.
CompressionIt refers to how an image is stored. The greater it is the lower the quality of the image. There are two types of this.
DXFIs a CAD data file format developed by Autodesk for enabling data interoperability between AutoCAD and other programs.
EPS – Encapsulated PostscriptIt is a Meta format that can be used on raster or vector graphics. Graphics developers generally save a copy of the AI file in this format. It is the preferred format for vendors/clients who use the graphics in publications
GIF – Graphics Interchange FormatIs a bitmap image format that was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.
GraphicsAnything on the page that is not actual text, from simple line drawings to fully active images found on the World Wide Web.
JPEG – Joint Photographic Experts GroupIt is a commonly used method of compression for photographic images. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. They typically achieve a 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.
LosslessThis compression reduces the file size without losing any pixel information and the quality of the image is not compromised.
LossyThis compression alters and/or eliminates some pixels. The more the image is reduced, the more the quality is degraded.
Meta graphicsThese files are intended to be portable between applications and may contain both vector and raster/bitmap components.
PLTIt is a vector file format designed by Hewlett Packard for Graphics images.
PNG – Portable Network GraphicsIt is a bitmap image format that employs lossless data compression and is typically used on the Internet.
PortabilityIt is how easily you can open, modify, and view the files using different operating systems, software, and browsers.
Raster graphicsThey consist of grids of tiny dots called pixels and are also called bitmap graphics. They have a fixed resolution and cannot be resized without altering image quality and are edited in paint programs.
RenderWhen an object is delivered in its final form to the viewer.
SVG – Scalable Vector GraphicsIt is a standard format created by W3C. It is a versatile all-purpose vector file format.
TIFF – Tagged Interleave FormatFile format (large file sizes) used to store raw bitmap data by some programs and devices such as scanners and used in high resolution printing. Available in compressed and un-compressed formats; compressed is advised.
TransparencyThis allows the background color of an image to be replaced or changed so that the graphic can blend into the background.
Vector graphicsThese types of graphics are created from mathematical formulas that are used to define lines, curves, and nodes (drawing points). They can be edited in draw programs. They are resolution independent – regardless of how much the image is enlarged or reduced, the image definition and quality remain the same.
WMFIs a graphics file format on Microsoft Windows systems, originally designed in the early 1990s. It is intended to be portable between applications and may contain both vector and bitmap components.
