Chemistry	The study of the structure, properties and changes of matter.
Chemical	Any substance that has a definite composition or is used or produced in a chemical process.
mass	Amount of matter that makes up an object.
atom	Basic building block of matter.
element	Composed of one type of atom.
compound	Composed of two or more different elements that are chemically bonded together.
Pure Substance	Any element or compound
Mixture	Two or more pure substances blended together.
Extensive property	property in which the amount of matter present affects the property. (ie. weight, mass, volume, size)
Intensive property	property in which the amount present does not affect the property (color, boiling point, reactivity)
physical property	property which can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the sample
chemical property	property which can only be observed when the sample is changing into something new.
change of state	when samples/substances change from gases to liquids or solids or vice versa
reactant	substance present before a chemical reaction occurs
product	substance present after a chemical reaction occurs
homogeneous mixture	also called a solution. The components of this mixture are uniformly blended
heterogeneous mixture	The components of this mixture are not uniformly blended and it will have chunks
group	a column on the period table
period	a row on the periodic table
metals	This region of the period table starts at group 1 and has elements in it through group 13. It is the largest region with elements that are solid metals with high boiling points, melting points and conductivity.
metalloids	Includes a few elements located in between the metals and non metals with properties that lie between those two regions.
non metals	are all gases or brittle solids with low conductivity
