Muscular Dystrophya group of disorders that cause the skeletal muscles to become wearker over time.
FractureBroken Bone
Closed FractureBone is broken, not breaking the skin
Open or Compound FractureBone is broken, sharp ends break through the skin (at risk of infection)
Greenstick Fracturebone bends or splinters, usually in children when bones are still flexible
Impacted FractureBone is broken and broken ends are jammed together.
Comminuted FractureBone is splinters, (crushed)
Spiral Fracturebreak that circles around the bone, caused by twisting force.
Reductionthe process of bringing the broken ends of a bone back into alignment
Fixationprocess of holding the bone in one position until the fracture heals.
Tractionused when fractured bones need to be surgically repaired but not right away: the ends of the bone are placed in alignment and then weighted to exert a constant pull adn keep the bone aligned
Hip FractureA fracture that occurs at the top of the femur bone (thigh bone) common in elderly people.
AmputationA removal of all or part of an arm or leg
Phantom painthe feeling a person may experience when they have had a body part amputated.
