| Tissue | A group of cells that work together to perform a certain function. There are four kinds of tissue in your body. |
| Cell | The basic unit of structure and function of living things. |
| Organism | Any living thing that mantains vital life processes. |
| Organ | A group of tissues that work together to perform a certain function. |
| Organ System | A group of organs that work together to do a job for the body. |
| Digestive System | The organ system that turns food into nutrients that body cells need for energy, growth and repair. |
| Circulatory System | The organ system, made up of the heart, blood vessels, and blood, that transport materials throughout the body. |
| Respiratory System | The organ system, including the lungs, that exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the enviroment. |
| Skeletal System | The organ system, including the bones, that protects the body and gives it structure. |
| Muscular System | The organ system , that includes the muscles, and allows the body to move. |
| Nervous System | The organ system, including the brain, spinal cord and nerves, that senses your surroundings and controls other organs. |
| Excretory System | The organ system, including the kidneys and bladder, that removes waste materials from the blood. |
| Circulatory System Function | The circulatory system carries oxygen and nutrients to cells of the body. |
| Respiratory System Function | The respiratory system exchanges carbon dioxide for oxigen. |
| Skeletal System Function | The skeletal system provides support, protects internal organs and produces blood cells. |
| Muscular System Function | The muscular system allows the body to move and produces heat to keep it warm. |
| Nervous System Function | The nervous system directs activities of ALL systems and respond to stimuli. |
| Excretory System Function | The excretory system eliminates wastes from the body. |
| Types of tissue in your body | Epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, connective tissue, nervous tissue. |
| Epithelial Tissue | The tissue that covers and lines your body. It also lines your internal organs. Example: the skin. |
| Muscle Tissue | Tissue made up of cells that contract when they receive signals from the brain. The contraction and relaxation of muscle tissue moves the skeleton. |
| Connective Tissue | Made up of cells that give support to your body and organs. Examples of connective tissue are bones, tendons, cartilages and ligaments. |
| Nervous Tissue | Tissue found in the brain, spinal cord, nerves |
| Nerve | A bundle of specialized cells that carry messages to parts of the body such as muscles. |
| Valve | A part of the heart and veins that allows blood to flow only in ONE direction. |
| Atrium | The upper chamber of the heart |
| Ventricle | The lower chamber of the heart. |
| Antibody | A susbstance in the blood that fights infection. |
| Antigens | A substance that triggers your inmune system. |
| Angioplasty | A medical procedure that clears a clooged artery. |
| Stethoscope | An instrument used to listen to the sounds from the heart , lungs, and other areas of the body. |
| Platelets | A type of cell that helps wounds heal. |
| Carbon Dioxide | A gas created by the body as a waste product. |
| Arteries | Part of the elements of the circulatory system. They carry blood away from the heart. |
| Capillaries | Part of the elements of the circulatory system. Capillaries are narrower than a human hair.Nutrients pass from the blood through the capillary walls to the cells. |
| Veins | Part of the elements of the circulatory system.Veins carry blood back to the heart. |
