Human Body Introduction Vocabulary Review.

AB
TissueA group of cells that work together to perform a certain function. There are four kinds of tissue in your body.
CellThe basic unit of structure and function of living things.
OrganismAny living thing that mantains vital life processes.
OrganA group of tissues that work together to perform a certain function.
Organ SystemA group of organs that work together to do a job for the body.
Digestive SystemThe organ system that turns food into nutrients that body cells need for energy, growth and repair.
Circulatory SystemThe organ system, made up of the heart, blood vessels, and blood, that transport materials throughout the body.
Respiratory SystemThe organ system, including the lungs, that exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the enviroment.
Skeletal SystemThe organ system, including the bones, that protects the body and gives it structure.
Muscular SystemThe organ system , that includes the muscles, and allows the body to move.
Nervous SystemThe organ system, including the brain, spinal cord and nerves, that senses your surroundings and controls other organs.
Excretory SystemThe organ system, including the kidneys and bladder, that removes waste materials from the blood.
Circulatory System FunctionThe circulatory system carries oxygen and nutrients to cells of the body.
Respiratory System FunctionThe respiratory system exchanges carbon dioxide for oxigen.
Skeletal System FunctionThe skeletal system provides support, protects internal organs and produces blood cells.
Muscular System FunctionThe muscular system allows the body to move and produces heat to keep it warm.
Nervous System FunctionThe nervous system directs activities of ALL systems and respond to stimuli.
Excretory System FunctionThe excretory system eliminates wastes from the body.
Types of tissue in your bodyEpithelial tissue, muscle tissue, connective tissue, nervous tissue.
Epithelial TissueThe tissue that covers and lines your body. It also lines your internal organs. Example: the skin.
Muscle TissueTissue made up of cells that contract when they receive signals from the brain. The contraction and relaxation of muscle tissue moves the skeleton.
Connective TissueMade up of cells that give support to your body and organs. Examples of connective tissue are bones, tendons, cartilages and ligaments.
Nervous TissueTissue found in the brain, spinal cord, nerves
NerveA bundle of specialized cells that carry messages to parts of the body such as muscles.
ValveA part of the heart and veins that allows blood to flow only in ONE direction.
AtriumThe upper chamber of the heart
VentricleThe lower chamber of the heart.
AntibodyA susbstance in the blood that fights infection.
AntigensA substance that triggers your inmune system.
AngioplastyA medical procedure that clears a clooged artery.
StethoscopeAn instrument used to listen to the sounds from the heart , lungs, and other areas of the body.
PlateletsA type of cell that helps wounds heal.
Carbon DioxideA gas created by the body as a waste product.
ArteriesPart of the elements of the circulatory system. They carry blood away from the heart.
CapillariesPart of the elements of the circulatory system. Capillaries are narrower than a human hair.Nutrients pass from the blood through the capillary walls to the cells.
VeinsPart of the elements of the circulatory system.Veins carry blood back to the heart.
